Women's Imaging Center

The Women's Imaging Center is adjacent to the Hospital's indoor waterfall; just one of the many soothing elements incorporated in the Center.

We understand the anxieties that mammography and other tests can create, which is why Virginia Hospital Center's commitment to women's health isn't limited to ensuring your access to an array of the most advanced diagnostic equipment of its kind, including breast ultrasound, DEXA scan and totally digital mammography technology. It can also be seen in the very design and operation of our Women's Imaging Center.

Situated alongside the Hospital's soothing indoor waterfall, the Women's Imaging Center has a dedicated entrance and waiting area that allow patients to prepare for their tests in a quiet atmosphere. The Center's staff members are easily identified by their pink scrubs (uniforms) and all work cooperatively to ensure that the standard of seeing patients within 15 minutes of arrival is met consistently.

Women who have been referred to the Center with a potential breast problem have a comprehensive mammography to evaluate their breast health without delay, with their test images immediately reviewed by a radiologist. Any follow-up diagnostics required are performed on the spot, allowing the patient the peace of mind (and convenience) of having the results in hand before she leaves the Center.

Women without symptoms may also receive a mammography and have their studies reviewed within one working day. The results will then be mailed to their referring healthcare provider within 24 hours. DEXA scanning or bone density testing are provided in the same fashion.

The Hospital is proud to have been the first in the Washington, DC metro area to offer totally digital mammography. Digital mammography assists in the early detection of breast cancer by incorporating modern electronics and computers into x-ray mammography methods. Instead of acquiring an image on film, digital mammography collects an image electronically—which allows it to be enhanced, analyzed and stored on a computer, thus enabling the most comprehensive and expedited care.
