Respiratory Therapy Scholarship Program
Description:
A scholarship program designed to support respiratory students who agree to work for one year, for each year of scholarship funds at Virginia Hospital Center.
Funds:
Full tuition and cost of textbooks.
Deadline for Application:
Will be accepted on an ongoing basis.
Criteria:
- Full-Time Respiratory Students in the Associate Degree of Northern Virginia Community College.
- Successful completion of the first semester of the Respiratory Therapy Curriculum. Grade point average must be at a minimum 3.0 An official transcript must be submitted.
- Completion of a scholarship application, resume, and letters of recommendation from two faculty members describing the student's strengths.
- Written commitment to work at Virginia Hospital Center in the Respiratory Therapy Department for a minimum of two years following graduation. Application for employment must be submitted with application for scholarship. Student must commit to work hours and shift available in the department.
- Written agreement to respond to inquiries regarding academic progress including official transcripts covering academic work since the scholarship award.
- An interview with the Director of Respiratory Therapy and designated others.
- Virginia Hospital Center employees may not use tuition reimbursement and scholarship awards in the same year.
Conditions:
- Employment at Virginia Hospital Center should begin at the first available orientation date following graduation.
- If the student obtains employment at Virginia Hospital Center before graduation, this does not fulfill the student's obligation to complete two years of employment after graduation.
- Employment will be offered based on positions available at the time of the student's graduation. If there are no positions available, or if the hospital is unable to offer a position, the obligation to the hospital will be considered satisfied. The money awarded will not have to be repaid.
- Scholarship recipients who do not fulfill their commitment to be employed, or do not complete their academic program are required to repay scholarship monies in full within three months of graduation, or withdrawal from the program.
- After completion of a 90 day probationary period, the employee is eligible to apply for tuition reimbursement funds to further his or her education. However, the commitment for tuition reimbursement is separate from the scholarship requirements.
